It was named after the separation from El Paso County. Its county seat is Sierra Blanca, where ranching is the major agronomic enterprise. The county also has two other communities, Dell City and Ft. Hancock. Both are irrigated farming valleys with the major crops being cotton, alfalfa, and vegetables. Other economic enterprises for the county are cattle, hunting, tourism and mining.

The county is also just seventy-five miles southeast of El Paso, which is considered to be one of the nation's third fastest growing metropolitan areas. You will be close to the Park where you can enjoy views of El Capitan and the Guadalupe Peak. You will also be close to Big Bend National Park and the Carlsbad Caverns
