The Pocono Mountains, located in northeastern Pennsylvania, are a vacationland of unparalleled beauty.  Quiet woodlands, mountain streams, lakes, and refreshing, clean air have made the Poconos famous as a resort center for over 100 years.

The Pocono Mountains offer four seasons of endless fun and a tremendous variety of diversions, from outdoor adventure to family attractions.  The Pocono Mountains are famous for its resorts, natural scenic beauty, 150 lakes including Lake Wallenpaupack, quaint towns of Jim Thorpe, Milford, Honesdale and Stroudsburg, the Pocono Mountains is a perfect year-round vacation destination.

With 7 state parks, 72,000 acres of state forests, the 70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and numerous state game lands, the Pocono Mountains region is a natural retreat. Combined with its unique cultural heritage, the Pocono Mountains region is the favorite four-season playground in the Northeast featuring:

  • A wide variety of lodging to suit every vacation style including families, campers and honeymooners
  • Unique shops, dining, family attractions & events year-round
  • Festivals, fairs and events for all ages
  • Amazing outdoor recreation including skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, hiking, fishing, boating, water parks, and family play parks
  • Perfect ambiance for romantic getaways & honeymoons
  • Outstanding meeting & conference facilities

The natural beauty of the area brings millions of people into the Poconos each year!  Just as the early vacationers found that the mountains and rivers provided a variety of summer activities, so do the visitors of today.  Tourists will find swimming, boating, championship golf, tennis, horseback riding, canoeing and excellent fishing!  In addition, Lake Wallenpaupack in the Northern Poconos offers a variety of boating experiences, including sailing, speed boating, water skiing and the opportunity for scuba diving and snorkeling.  The Pocono Mountains is the home of the Pocono International Raceway, which features world-class drivers in modified, stock, Indy, motorcycle and truck races throughout the summer months.

The months of September and October bring forth a spectacular burst of color to the area!  The Poconos are unique in the fact that over 60 different varieties of trees are found here, with Mother Nature giving each species a hue different from every other.  The result is a rainbow of color from forest bed to treetop, ranging from the deepest golds to the brightest reds.

A special beauty comes to life in the mountains as the first snowfall blankets the area.  Although the Poconos first became popular as a summer resort, the area is now known through the Eastern United States as a winter sport center.  Fifteen major ski areas offer 136 slopes and trails to all levels of skiers.  Most important is the fact that the Pocono ski areas provide 100% snowmaking of their slopes, guaranteeing good skiing conditions from December until March.  In additions to excellent skiing, visitors can also enjoy snowmobiling, ice skating, sledding, tobogganing, ice fishing and cross-country skiing throughout the winter months.

The earliest attraction of the area was the famed Delaware Water Gap, a deep gorge between two mountains created by the gradual erosion of the Delaware River.  The Delaware Water Gap is approximately 100 miles from New York City and Philadelphia.  As the years passed, vacationers found that the scenic wonder of the Delaware Water Gap was just a gateway to 2,400 square miles of mountain splendor known as the Poconos.

Major highways and airports make the area accessible to many for just a day of skiing or golf, or for just a two-week vacation.  Businesspeople have found that the area offers best in meeting facilities, providing just the right combination of pleasure with business.  No matter what kind of vacation or relaxation the individual is looking for, the four-season playground of the Pocono Mountains has it all!!
