 As of 2006 the highest price paid for a single loose ruby was $5,860,000 for a 38.12 carat ruby.  Ruby is a gemstone that that comes from the corundum gemstone family.  Ruby is considered a precious gemstone along with diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds.  Ruby is the birthstone for July.  Ruby is associated with a 40th wedding anniversary. Ruby is the most commonly named precious stone in English translations of the Bible.
