What Bert Has To Say about El Paso Metro Area

El Paso is a unique American city. Self-sufficient and surprisingly large, the city has a modern downtown, with a

commercial district and low skyscrapers, and development spreading mostly to the north and east. Because of its isolation, large industry

has never taken root, but the area does have some agriculture, ranching, mining, oil, and “maquiladora” industry powered by low-cost

labor from

Mexico. Fort Bliss brings a military presence to the economic and social base, and the recent base realignments have helped by locating

more facilities

and personnel there.

1. Gypsum Sand Dunes, Guadalupe Mountains

 https://images.theoutbound.com/uploads/1486346092351/bk111off6v1mvrjs/61d938a29318682407103fe6bc075734?w=300&h=220&fit=crop&q=60&s=118344ef1b9fcb918bf5bdff7e5af482&dpr=2

First, talk to the park ranger at the Pine Springs Visitor Center to get there. There is a gate that you may need to borrow a key for. You will need to drive out of the park to get to the gypsum dunes, leaving and heading west on 62/180 for 14 miles, and then take a right (head north) on private road 1576 21 miles close to Dell City. Before you reach Dell City, a turn-off will be headed back east towards the Guadalupe Mountains. This road will take you 9 miles from Dell City and straight back into the park where after a gate there is a parking space with shaded picnic tables.

The park is enormous and can offer an endless variety of climbing, whether you're staying for one weekend or several weeks. Equipped with a guidebook of the park, you will easily be able to find phenomenal climbs of all levels. It's easy to find beginner's problems right next to expert-level problems so that your whole group can enjoy a climbing trip at Hueco. The best place to start is the warm-up boulders near the parking lot on North Mountain.

Nice gypsum dunes with very good views of the Guadalupe Mountains. Best dunes outside of White Sands in New Mexico.

After the drive from Dell City park at the parking lot at the end of Williams’s rd. Start walking the trail towards the dunes. It is a 3-mile round trip. You can hike around the dunes and enjoy the views of the Guadalupe Mountains and the surrounding dunes. The best time to visit is during the cooler time of the year.

4. For Off-The-Grid Living

The term “off-the-grid living” refers to living off the electrical grid but its title tentatively used by those who want to live away from it all. Although we don’t often suggest that our landowners build homes on the land (due to the harsh conditions of the desert landscape), it’s still possible to build an off-the-grid residence there. Just make sure to dig a well for water, install a septic system for waste, and a way to gather energy, which takes us to…

5. Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife

Established in 1939 in southern New Mexico to provide sanctuary and breeding grounds for migratory birds and other wildlife, the Apache National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most spectacular sanctuaries in North America. The Apache National Wildlife Refuge has a large area of floodplains, wetlands, grasslands, and foothills. The species-rich natural ecological environment creates a good living space for animals and plants here. This is a world-renowned bird-watching destination, with more than 300 different bird species in the reserve, including a large number of waterfowl, shorebirds and raptors

6. Go Ziplining

If you’re an adventurous soul with a fearless spirit, I have a thrilling suggestion that will take you to new heights and offer a bird’s eye perspective of the stunning landscape that surrounds you. Zip lining is an exhilarating activity that allows you to soar through the air, and there’s no better place to experience it than at Superstition Zip line in Goldfield Ghost Town.

7. Ski Apache

Ski Apache opened under the name "Sierra Blanca Ski Resort" during Christmas of 1961. Amazingly, twenty-six hundred people an hour were fast carried up the ski run crest via three T-bar lifts. In 1962, the very first mono-cable four-passenger gondola in North America was built to accommodate a greater number of skiers. And it seems just in time as twenty-five thousand skiers showed up for the second season

8. Commemorative Air Force Museum

As I stepped into the museum, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement coursing through my veins. The collection of historic aircraft is a sight to behold, and among them stands one of my personal favorites: the legendary P-51 Mustang. This iconic aircraft played a crucial role as a long-range bomber escort during World War II, protecting American and English bombers as they braved the skies over Germany. Its powerful presence and remarkable performance helped turn the tide of the air war over Europe.

9. Saguaro Lake

When it comes to outdoor fun near Apache Junction, Saguaro Lake in the breathtaking Tonto National Forest is a hidden gem that offers a plethora of activities. Trust me, I’ve been there and it’s an adventure you don’t want to miss.

Located just a short distance from Apache Junction, Saguaro Lake is a paradise for water enthusiasts. Whether you enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, or water skiing, this lake has it all. It’s hard to resist the sparkling waters and the thrill of engaging in various water activities.

10. Apache Trail and Dolly Steamboat

The Apache Trail is an old Indian trade route that runs from Canyon Lake through the Sonora Desert and into the Superstition Mountains. On this tour, explore the historic route by land and boat as you cruise across the lake on a Dolly Steamboat, then drive through the desert to the Old West village of Tortilla Flat.
