"A visit to Rome in 1917 was the occasion of a meeting which changed Picasso's life. There, he met Olga Khoklova, a ballet dancer and daughter of a Russian colonel. He fell in love with her and she became Mrs. Picasso the next year. The artist's happiness with her reached its peak when in 1921 she gave him a son, Paulo...Picasso made many drawings of his son, but he kept three very important canvasses: Paulo, drawing at 2 years old; dressed as Harlequin at 3 years old; and as Pierrot, another clown, at 4...The happiness given to Picasso by his marriage and family life gave birth to very serene and classical paintings."

"Paulo as Harlequin (1924) is a painting which was in the artist's personal collection. It is now part of the permanent collection of the Musée Picasso in Paris, scheduled to open in 1981, the centenary of the artist's birth. The painting was reproduced in Paris this year (1980) on museum-grade VELIN D' ARCHES paper under the direction of the Louvre Museum's printing experts. VELIN D' ARCHES 100% rag paper is reserved for art editions only, for it captures every highlight and every fine shading of the painting itself."

"By order of the Directors of the Editions of the Louvre (Editions de la Réunion des Musées Nationaux), this Picasso reproduction was issued in an edition of 5,000. The World Treasure Society has been appointed to distribute this print and has hand-numbered each individual impression. Each bears a special copyright mark certifying it is approved for issue by the family of the artist." - Dr. Steven F. Hochschild, President, World Treasure Society

ARTIST INFO

A piece for the true collector. "Born in Malaga, Spain, Pablo Picasso is probably the most famous artist of the twentieth century. During his artistic career, which lasted more than 75 years, he created thousands of works, not only paintings but also sculptures, prints, and ceramics, using all kinds of materials."

"He almost single-handedly created modern art. He changed art more profoundly than any other artist of the century. First famous for his pioneering role in Cubism, Picasso continued to develop his art with a pace and vitality comparable to the accelerated technological and cultural changes of the twentieth century. Each change embodied a radical new idea, and it might be said that Picasso lived several artistic lifetimes."
